I've owned a few of the old Schecters including a nice J bass. I know a guitar builder that has worked with him over the years going back to the 70s. I use to live in Tucson, Arizona where Dave Schecter is from. I know that Schecter worked with artists like PT for example. The bass player eventually became a minister so maybe there is an association with the cross. I saw them several times back in the day. As for the "Kansas" on the neck heel this might be the band Kansas. Everything works and it play and sounds good. It has the two offset end pin strap buttons. The body has the rib contour but the top is flat. Since it is pretty thin you don t notice the degradation quite so much. This is the old nitrate tortoise binding that has degraded in a few spots. It is made from mahogany and is bound around the front. The body has a yellowed olympic white finish. It has a brass nut, It also says Kansas on the heel. There is not a whole lot of wear to the frets or finish. It is in good shape and has the backwards nickel Kluson style tuning keys.

The neck finish is lacquer and it has yellowed nicely. This makes me think that the bass started life as you see it. There are no holes for the P and J pickup mounting/height adjustment screws. This body started life as a white P/J body that was then routed and set up with the EMG's.

It looks like the bass has the appropriate Van Nuys Schecter numbers on the neck heel and neck plate. It has two EMG pickups i n a setup that is reminiscent of a Thunderbird. This bass is a P-Bass with a Birdseye maple beck and a bound mahogany body. This looks like a bass that Schecter put together in the early 80s.
