She turns to fight off the Whisperers and the entrance collapses. More Whisperers attack from inside the caves and Magna yells at Jerry to flee. Meanwhile Jerry is inside, barely holding up the collapsing mine shaft. When Kelly gets out of the opening she’s immediately attacked by “freaks” and there’s yet another brutal clash with Kelly and Aaron making quick work of their attackers. She grabs at the stick of dynamite and it falls off the ledge, down into the horde below where it explodes.Īnd while this may indeed take out a large portion of the horde, it also starts to collapse the rest of the caves and the mine shaft where everyone else is trying desperately to escape. And even then, all she can think of is how Alpha killed Henry-not the safety of Daryl or any of her other travel companions. It’s only because he follows her that she even survives. Carol has blatantly disregarded Daryl’s request to include him, running off without a word. She’s made her way back to the horde which she apparently hopes to destroy in a massive dynamite-sparked collapse.Īfter all, what could possibly go wrong? Carol’s Folly Once again, selfishly and stupidly, Carol has put everyone else’s lives at risk.

They dig their way out and are finally free of the cave when Daryl looks around and says “Where’s Carol?” He notices some of the dynamite is also missing. It could collapse in on them at any minute. They’ll need to dig their way out, and also move some of the old timbers. Up above they spy a shaft of light-a way out, though not an easy way and certainly not safe. The caves are connected to ancient mine shafts in which they find old, and very unstable, dynamite. The spelunking adventure ends with most of our heroes escaping-but not everyone.
Jerry, as always, helps lighten the mood a little. You can really feel the oppressiveness of the space in this episode, and that sense of dread as the earth the darkness press down.
Not ideal for navigating narrow tunnels and tight crevices. Not only did she get them into this mess rather recklessly, she also suffers from claustrophobia. Carol proves to be a pain in more ways than one this episode.
